10 Signs the Economy ‘Might’ Be Recovering

With the unrelenting day in, day out barrage of negative economic forecasts, it’s easy for signs of possible recovery to go unnoticed. However, several such signs may actually be lurking right under our noses. While there aren’t many signs of sharp, dramatic improvement, things appear to be improving at the margins of the American and world economies. And as the old saying goes, “you have to crawl before you can walk.” We thought it would be helpful (and hopefully inspiring) to assemble these possible recovery indicators in one place, and here are ten of the most compelling.

Predicting a ‘Modest’ Recovery Soon

The most positive thing to be said of recessions is that they eventually end. As bad as the Great Depression and other downturns were – and for as long as they lasted– the country ultimately emerged stronger, and grew more prosperous after each one. This has led some to wonder if a recovery from today’s recession is on its way. We are not out of the woods yet, but certain data and media reports do seem to indicate a modest recovery in the not too distant future.

The New Deal vs. Obama’s Economic Recovery Act

Many a comparison has been made between the American financial climate of the 1930s and our current economic state. Although we are not yet in a situation as dire, there has been a great deal of controversy over the measures proposed and enacted by our president to prevent it from becoming so. FDR’s New Deal helped to bring the country’s economy back to health, and Obama’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act has its sights on the same goal. Here we take a look at the two plans head-to-head to see some of the similarities, differences, and what we can learn from the past in our attempt to reverse the path of this troubled economy.
